Static vs Dynamic QR Codes: Which One Should You Use?

This question comes up constantly, and the answer depends entirely on how the code will be used, not which format is objectively "better."
Choose static when
The code is for a single-use printed item you won't reuse or update
You don't need any scan data or analytics
The destination URL will never change
Choose dynamic when
The code will be printed at scale (menus, packaging, signage) and might need updates
You want scan volume, timing, or location data
You're running the same printed code across multiple campaign phases with different destinations
The practical default
For most marketing use cases, dynamic is worth the small extra setup step, since the ability to fix a mistake or measure performance after printing almost always outweighs the simplicity of static, especially once anything is printed at real volume.
